🌎 Celebrate your Mother on April 22

One of our favorite holidays, Earth Day, is right around the corner and we’re going big this year. We’ve always been a bit crunchy and love to do a lot surrounding sustainability with race day, so why stop at one weekend per year. We’d love to have you join us for any or all of the different ways: watching a webinar to learn about sustainability in racing; running with us and plogging; and purchasing some brand-new eco-friendly merch.

Run With Us

Let’s start with the most fun one – running together! Join us on Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd at Barn Burner’s Run Club to reuse, reduce, and recycle all night! The party will kick off at the Trolley Barn at 6:00 pm, followed by a run of 2, 3, or 4 miles at 6:30 pm.

Reuse your old shoes: You can only turn so many old running shoes into your backyard kickarounds. We’ve got Charlotte Running Company joining the party on Monday and they’ve partnered with Sneaker Impact to recycle your shoes in so many cool ways. ANNNNDDD, when you drop off shoes, Truist is doubling the impact. For every pair you bring, they’ll donate $10 to one of our beneficiaries, Sustain Charlotte!

Reduce the amount of trash in the ‘hood: Let’s remove some of that trash out on the route that weaves through Dilworth! Bring some gloves and old Harris Teeter bags you have lying around to plog (collect trash while running) with the crew. Don’t worry, we’ll have extras if you forget yours. The runner with the most trash is walking home with a sustainable prize.

Recycle those tees: We’re setting up a Recover Closed Loop Bin for you to toss your old race tees that may no longer serve a purpose for you. They’ll then break it down, spin it into new yarn, and BOOM – brand new tee. The best part, old tees = new tees– when you donate your old tees, we’ll give you 10% off of our brand new merch launching on our Zero Waste Online Store on Earth Day.

New Earth-Friendly Merchandise

Yep, that’s right, we’re already releasing some of our new merchandise for 2024 and we’ve partnered with Recover to do it in a cool new way. Starting on April 22, you’ll be able to shop our Zero Waste Online Store on Recover’s site. We’ve got a few pieces in here already, but we plan to update this with new colors, styles, and more in the coming months. Remember, all of this gear is produced from 100% recycled or organic materials.

Webinar on Sustainability

If you’re super crunchy like us and want to learn a little more, our Race Director, Brian Mister, will be speaking on a panel discussion about sustainability in races of all sizes. The RunningUSA panel will be moderated by Tina Muir and Brian will be joined by Kristin Cushman, CEO of Blue Strike Environmental; Alexandra Criscuolo, Head of Sustainability at New York Road Runners; Dustin Martin with Wings of America; Rico Tesio board chair of Council for Responsible Sport.

No matter what you do on Earth Day this year, get out there and do something that will help, in big or small ways. We’ve only got one planet, and it’s our job to take good care of her!
